Look up look down look level

After years of cleaning, I have learned one thing: even bad cleaners do some things right, and even good cleaners miss some things. And one of the most obvious reasons for why this occurs: height.

Simple as it sounds, we all get used to seeing the world from our perspective both mentally and phsyically. I used to clean with my mother when I first started. My mom is a hard working lady, but her back is not what it used to be.

When I would come to a property she cleaned, I would notice that some parts of the floor had been missed. It wasnt out of laziness, it was just out of a normal physical range of motion bias.

Another tiime, I was cleaning up after a cleaner that was rather tall, and believe it or not, they missed the roof of a microwave that was filthy. Again, honest mistake. It was simply that they didn’t take the time to stoop down and look under.

When you’re cleaning a house, always look up. Check the air vents, see if you need a new air filter, does your smoke alarm need batteries, are there cobwebs etc.

But of course look down too. Is there a mountain of hair under the bed? Do you pull out the couch cushions? Do you need to move some plants before mopping etc.

Usually the middle takes care of itself. Flat surfaces like counters etc. Those HAVE to be done right because they are the things people touch.

3 annoying things people don’t clean in their airbnb because it’s annoying.

1. Wash windows.

Washing windows is the cheapest way to make any room feel brighter, cleaner, and bigger. It’s not a part of a regular clean but should be a part of any deep clean or property launch. Even cleaning high traffic windows like where pets are is a good start.

2. Culling and donating linens/towels.

A cleaners job is to clean, the more decisions you put on your cleaners plates the more you slow them down and piss them off. That said, every cleaner should feel deputized to pull a sheet or towel out of the rotation if it’s not up to scratch. A sheet is $20, a wash rag is a $1, a pissed off ocd neat freak is gonna coats you minimum your cleaning fee.

Also, and this may be hard to hear, linens don’t last forever. Not when you have 500 guests in a year. Let go and let god

3. Tightening furniture

Most airbnb furniture, let’s face it, is Shitty. Why? Because people are insane. They are hard on stuff and it’s not motivating to keep nice items when they can be messed up. That said, if your stuff is held together with bolts be it a chair, bed frame, etc you HAVE to do this. Your freak a leak guests will thank you.
